Michael Hessler
Database Administrator / Developer / Engineer
If you’re in need of a top notch Database Administrator and trouble-shooter who can hit the ground running, contact me now to discuss your needs. I have been resolving client’s problems for more than 20 years in a variety of fields ranging from chemical engineering to database administration, code development, and project leadership.
I am seeking a position as a Database Administrator, SQL Developer, Engineer, or in a related capacity as my wide range of skills qualify me for a variety of possibilities. I prefer to remain in the Jerusalem area, but will consider relocation within Israel.
Over the years I have chosen a series of outsource assignments instead of direct hire permanent positions in America for a variety of reasons. Below is a brief recap of my work history, for more details please view my online résumé and references at LinkedIn
Database Administration: Regularly contracted to correct business-crippling data problems or for interim coverage of urgent-need abandoned DBA positions, followed by mentoring and handing over duties to a junior DBA.
Development experience includes data migrations from various legacy sources, SQL and Oracle version upgrades, creation of new enterprise-wide database architecture and data modeling with CA ERwin, creation of stored procedures and scripts, security and performance improvement, data integrity resolution, reporting and documentation.
Knowledge of a wide variety of business applications gained through working with client’s legacy systems, and in the migration efforts to the successors of those systems, in various industries dealing with medical, government, engineering and business data.
Clients include: Gibson Guitar USA, Medquist, OEConnection, ASM International, University Hospitals Health System, Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co. L.P.A., Beech Brook, U-Store-It, STERIS Corporation, and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, through the following outsourcing firms: Robert Half Technologies, Access Enterprise Solutions, Oxford Global Resources and Sapphire Technologies.
Engineering: I began my career working as a chemical process engineer outsourced to clients in the petrochemical, energy, hazardous waste, defense, electronics, and beverage industries where I developed code to solve engineering process design problems. The software tools I created greatly improved efficiency. In one case my innovative efforts resulted in a new profit center for the Babcock & Wilcox Company. Other clients include: SOFCo EFS, Shell Chemical Risk Management, Union Carbide Corp., The Monsanto Company, Missouri Department Of Natural Resources, Anheuser-Busch, Chemical Waste Management Inc., U.S. Department of Defense, Ethyl Petroleum Additives, Alis-Chalmers, Marsh Ink Company, and Engineering Design & Management.
Project Management: Assisted executives in realizing their desired project outcomes through the preparation of project definitions and cost estimates for funding, generation of process documents and proactive interaction with client representatives, managers, engineering and designer teams. Developing my teams to function efficiently in my physical absences freed me up to directly address urgent issues. I managed three $5 million projects in various stages at the same time for The Monsanto Company, and directed the efforts of 18 engineers on multi-million dollar projects for Union Carbide. Utilizing my problem solving skills, I successfully lead a team at Gibson Guitar from unreliable and incompatible legacy systems to a solid, accessible suite of professionally developed and implemented software.
I am a citizen of the U.S.A. and Israel, authorized to work in both countries.
